Pair of top alpine skiers crash out of contention in men's giant slalom
It was a tough day at Yongpyong Alpine Center for a pair of ski racers competing in the men’s giant slalom event. First Manuel Feller, the 2017 World Championship silver medalist from Austria, lost control of his first run at the last minute — forcing his disqualification.
Not long after, Italy’s Luca de Aliprandini suffered the same fate after a scary crash into the safety nets resulted in an unknown injury to his leg. He was on pace to post the second-fastest time behind Feller’s Austrian teammate and gold-medal favorite, Marcel Hirscher, prior to his wreck.

The crashes on the giant slalom course come one day after American gold medal favorite, Lindsey Vonn, skidded out at the end of her run in the women’s Super-G event, resulting in a surprising sixth place finish.
Feller is also set to represent Austria in the men’s slalom event, which is currently scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 22nd.
