Painted Post woman arrested on welfare fraud charges

PAINTED POST, N.Y. (WETM) – A Painted Post woman has been arrested on multiple charges in connection to an incident of welfare fraud in Steuben County.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Emily P. Martin, 23, of Painted Post, was arrested on Wednesday, March 27, after it was alleged that she knowingly provided false documentation to the Steuben County Department of Social Services from May 2022 to November 2023, and received stolen services of $3,918 and $912.08.

She has been charged with the following:

  • Two counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, a class E felony

  • Welfare fraud in the fifth degree, a class A misdemeanor

  • Grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony

  • Falsifying business records in the first degree, a class E felony

  • Petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor

  • Misuse of food stamps, a class A misdemeanor

Martin was summonsed to the Centralized Arraignment Court and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Bath Court at a later date.
