SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Late San Diego Padres Owner and Chairman Peter Seidler continues to be honored following his passing in November 2023.

On Saturday, thousands of Padres fans, former players, current players, friends and family members packed Petco Park to celebrate his life and legacy.

During the Peter Seidler Celebration of Life at Petco Park memorial event, City of San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria announced a street near Petco Park will soon be renamed “The Peter Seidler Way.”

Also announced at the memorial event, Peter’s initials inside a heart of gold are adorned on the wall behind home plate above the press box “in the ballpark and city he loved.”

How the San Diego Padres are honoring late owner Peter Seidler in 2024

Mayor Gloria posted the street naming announcement on X first in early January 2024, “The late @Padres Chairman Peter Seidler lived his values and acted on his compassion for people experiencing homelessness every single day. I’ve started the process of renaming one of the streets leading to @PetcoPark “[The] Peter Seidler Way” to honor Peter’s legacy.”

On March 23 following the Celebration of Life memorial, Mayor Gloria posted on X, “Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Peter Seidler, a visionary whose legacy goes well beyond his transformative leadership of the @Padres. Peter’s commitment to San Diego has made a profound impact, and his spirit lives on in every corner of our community.”

Seidler, owner of the San Diego Padres since 2012, died in November 2023 at the age of 63.
