Paddy Day Parade is on Saturday, some streets will close

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — If you’re looking for a fun, cheap way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the Delano Paddy Day Parade in Wichita could be your best option. You can find other events listed at the bottom of this story.

Delano Paddy Day Parade

The parade is part of eight hours of fun planned for Saturday, March 16, on Douglas just west of the river. Admission is free, but bring money for food and drink.

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Kids zone on the north side of Douglas at Osage Street

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Booze truck on the north side of Douglas at Sycamore

  • 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. — Street party with food and drink trucks on the north side of Douglas at Handley Street.

  • Noon — Parade begins at Douglas and McLean and travels west to Walnut Street

The street party will include a mechanical bull for adults to try. Music will start around 1:30 p.m. There will also be prize drawings for adults, including tickets to the Blake Shelton concert at Intrust Bank Arena on March 29.

Drivers are asked not to park on that stretch of Douglas from overnight Friday into Saturday.

Also, the following streets will be closed Saturday from 7 a.m. until approximately 3:30 p.m.:

  • Douglas from Waco to Seneca

  • McLean from Maple/Waterman to 1st/2nd Street

  • Walnut from Douglas to 2nd Street

There will be open parking in public lots and along side streets.

Other St. Patrick’s Day weekend events

Visit Wichita, the official destination marketing organization for Wichita and Sedgwick County lists some other events linked to St. Patrick’s Day.

  • March 15, 16 and 17 — Free admission to the St. Patrick’s Day partying at the Irish bar The Artichoke. Buy bangers and mash, Mulligan stew, and green beer. There will be a heated tent for a parking lot party. And there will be music:

    • Friday at 7:30 p.m. — Alan & Grant

    • Saturday at 2 p.m. — Matt Ebberwein

    • Saturday at 7:30 p.m. — The Haymakers

    • Sunday at 1 p.m. — Wichita Caledonian Pipes and Drums

    • Sunday at 5 p.m. — Knocknasheega

  • March 16 — Free admission to Wagon O’Masters Paddy Party in Naftzger Park, 601 E. Douglas, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The party will feature live music, bagpipe players, hourly competitions for prizes, a kids zone, and more. Funds raised support local charities.

  • March 16Paddy’s Day Patio event starting at 10 a.m. at All Things Barbecue, 818 W. Douglas. Free admission. The patio has a front-row view of the parade. The event includes samples from Heat Mavericks, Chile Slinger BBQ, Grannies Homemade Mustard, & Bash Brothers.

  • March 16 and 17— St. Patrick’s Day at Shamrock Lounge, 1724 W. Douglas. Admission ranges from free to $5. Shamrock Lounge is cash only this weekend. There is an ATM available.

    • Saturday

      • 10 a.m. — Shamrock opens for pre-parade festivities

      • Noon — The Delano parade is several blocks east of Shamrock Lounge

      • 1 p.m. — Irish-themed lunch served

      • 2 and 5 p.m. — Bagpipers stop by

      • 6 p.m. — Irish-themed dinner

      • 9 p.m. — Phiya/Wasay Oblique/Milkwave show, the cost is $5

    • Sunday

      • 10 a.m. — Shamrock opens

      • Noon — St. Pat’s food is served all day

      • 2 and 5 p.m. — Bagpipers stop in

      • 7 to 10 p.m. — Irish/Celtic music from Sassanachs

  • March 16 — Fake Patty’s Day Party at Stearman Field Bar and Grill, 14789 SW 30th Street, Benton. The bar is open from 8 a.m. to midnight. Enjoy green beer and corned beef Reubens. There will also be music from Whiskey South Forty later in the day.

  • March 16 — Lucky’s St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl, 4 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $25 in advance, $30 on March 16. Check-in is at Emerson Biggins, 808 E. Douglas. Click here for complete details.

  • March 17 — St. Paddy’s Day Brunch, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grace Hill Winery in Whitewater. The $35 cost includes a glass of wine. There will be traditional brunch items, plus some Irish foods.
