Packers Pride in my Fantasy Football Draft

Fantasy Football is something has been growing over the years and now millions of football fans enjoy drafting real players to play for their make believe team.

The hit TV series The League provided a funny outlet that was all too real at times with how people treat their fantasy football teams. I would like to think I am the Pete in my group, but I’m probably a Ruxin.

I wasn’t going to participate this year, because I don’t enjoy watching the games as much. With a last-minute decision, I did join my league for draft day and I went all-in with the Green Bay Packers.

My strategy for the past few years to fantasy drafting is to pick the players of my favorite team. Having been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan my whole life, that hasn’t been too much of an issue and my teams have had success.

This year, I found myself looking at a second round draft choice to select a quarterback that had no business being there. I was looking at my golden ticket with Aaron Rodgers’ smiling face looking at me.

With no hesitation, I pulled the trigger and felt a jolt of satisfaction rush over me. In drafts past, I have watched Rodgers go easily within the top-five picks. Did I miss something? I know that Rodgers had a bit of a down year last season, but how could anyone write off a two-time MVP? Doesn’t matter, I selected him.

Three rounds passed and I saw running back Eddie Lacy slip through my fingers the pick right before me. Feeling down but not out, Randall Cobb was sitting there with his piercing brown eyes staring into my soul. I had no choice but to select the former Kentucky standout.

As the draft continued I needed a tight end and a defense. As you could have guessed, I picked Jared Cook and the Green Bay defense in back-to-back rounds. Of the two picks, I was more concerned about Cook who has yet to produce, but I feel he will be fine with Rodgers slinging the ball.

I should have been a little more hesitant for the Packers defense because I had selected them last year and got burned by that deal. Especially when they lost 38-8 to the Arizona Cardinals and I earned negative points.

Despite going Packers heavy, I feel confident in my picks. With the return of Jordy Nelson, I feel that this team will be similar to 2014 when this team had him on the field. If they aren’t, I guess I will have to find some players on the waiver wire to make up for my terrible drafting.
