‘Owning Your Piece of Texas Workshop’ educates local landowners

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Following multiple changes to laws that affect landowners, Texas A&M held a workshop in Tyler to help educate residents.

During the Owning Your Piece of Texas Workshop, experts and specialists presented and answered questions that residents had regarding land ownership laws. Some of the topics they went over included eminent domain, landowner liability, tax valuations and fencing rules.

“We’re seeing more and more people move out to rural land. We’re seeing more and more real estate agents get involved in selling rural land. So just being aware that these legal issues can come up can be really important,” Tiffany Lashmet, Texas A&M agricultural law specialist, said. “And the best thing you can do is be prepared before there’s a problem, to know especially something like landowner liability. There’s lots of ways to protect yourself before an accident occurs, and that’s what we’re trying to do today.”

Tiffany added that anyone who wasn’t able to attend the workshop is encouraged to reach out to Texas A&M.
