Owners: VB Fishing Pier reopening delayed

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The reopening of the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier has been delayed.

The pier was scheduled to reopen Monday after a man crashed through the gate and drove over the edge in late January.

A representative for the owners told 10 On Your Side rain is the blame for the setbacks. At this time, he is unsure whether those setbacks could last months or weeks.

Some locals said they have mixed emotions about the reopening, with a tragedy now forever linked to the pier.

Resident Dwight Kane believes it should also be a cause taken up by the community in honor of the person who died here.

“If they put up a little sign and make donations, do the … awareness walks and races and everything else that happens all year long, to me, it’s gotta be positive,” Dwight said.
