Overturned big rig slows Highway 126 west of Piru

Westbound lanes of Highway 126 were closed for a time between Piru and Fillmore Friday morning after a semitrailer overturned, authorities said.

The incident was reported near Hopper Canyon Road shortly after 9:10 a.m., said Lt. Jeremy Key with the California Highway Patrol. No injuries were reported. The rig was described as a large dump truck hauling a trailer filled with sand.

The crash initially closed westbound lanes at Hopper Canyon, Key said. But by around 9:45 a.m., westbound drivers were being routed along the center divider. Eastbound traffic wasn't impacted.

No information about what caused the big rig to overturn was immediately available, he said. No other vehicles were involved.

Some motor oil and other fluids had spilled, Key said, but nothing requiring a hazardous materials response. Cleanup at the site was expected to last into early afternoon, with delays expected along the route.
