Overland Park man remains missing after search concludes at Clinton State Park

Douglas County sheriff’s deputies have unsuccessfully scoured Clinton State Park, outside Lawrence, this week, in attempts to find a missing Overland Park man. Deputies concluded an extensive search at the park on Friday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.

Deputies have been searching locations throughout the state park since Wednesday evening after a vehicle associated with David Kyle Kempker, 53, was found there, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in the post. Kempker had been reported missing to Overland Park police late on Tuesday, and a deputy found the vehicle 24 hours later at the park.

The sheriff’s office said the nature of the initial report was “to check his welfare and located him safely.”

Anyone with information about Kempker’s location is asked to contact law enforcement at 785-841-0007.

Kansas Search and Rescue provided K9 teams for the search, and the Lawrence Police Department, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks game wardens and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff also assisted in the search.
