Overhead wire issues causing big delays for Amtrak and NJ Transit

Rail services in and out of Penn Station are experiencing significant delays Tuesday morning due to overhead wire issues, Amtrak officials said.

Amtrak reported that as of 7:40 a.m., all trains entering and exiting New York Penn Station could face delays of up to 90 minutes. The delays are caused by a disabled commuter train blocking the route in the north tube. "We will provide an update as more information becomes available," Amtrak said in a statement.

NJ Transit reported an hour delay around 10 a.m.

Midtown Direct service is being diverted to Hoboken, according to New Jersey Transit (NJT). To accommodate affected passengers, NJT rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored by NJT buses, private carrier buses, and the PATH system at Newark Penn, Hoboken, and 33rd Street in New York.

Commuters are advised to plan for additional travel time and check for updates throughout the day as crews work to resolve the issue and restore normal service.
