Procter & Gamble recalls Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods, and Ariel Pods liquid laundry detergent packets sold in flexible bags. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall affects 8.2 million defective outer packaging bags which may cause them to split open near the zipper track and pose a serious risk if ingested. They can also injure the eyes and skin.

The USCPSC states the recalled products include "liquid laundry detergent packets packaged in flexible film bags” that range from “12 to 39 laundry detergent packets” in each bag. The products involved in this recall include:

  • Gain Flings Original

  • Gain Flings Moonlight Breeze Scent

  • Gain Flings Blissful Breeze Scent

  • Gain Flings Spring Daydream Scent

  • Gain Flings Plus Ultra Oxi

  • Tide Pods Clean Breeze Scent

  • Tide Pods Free & Gentle

To determine if you have one of these recalled items, check the lot code on the bag against the lot codes listed at pg.com/bags. You can find the lot code at the bottom of the laundry detergent bag.

The recalled products were manufactured between September 2023 and February 2024 and sold at various retail stores nationwide, including Big Lots, Sam’s Club, Target, and Walmart.

The company received four reports of children in the United States who obtained the liquid laundry packets, and three reportedly ingested the product. However, it is unclear whether these packets are from these specific recalled bags as there are no confirmed cases yet. The USCPSC explains “Ingestion of a large quantity of any surfactant-containing household cleaning products can cause death among individuals with underlying health issues.”

The USCPSC recommends customers ensure the recalled bags are moved away from children. You can contact Procter & Gamble for a full refund and free replacement.
