Over 500 pieces of stolen mail recovered in Sacramento County
(FOX40.COM) — The Folsom Police Department said two people were arrested on Tuesday after officers discovered over 500 stolen pieces of mail in the trunk of a vehicle near the Palladio shopping center.
Police said that two Stockton residents, a 42-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were booked into a Sacramento County jail following the recovery of the stolen mail, which was primarily from the Folsom and El Dorado Hills area.

On Tuesday, around 2:15 p.m., Folsom police officers noticed a woman “acting suspiciously” as she entered a Nordstrom Rack store. Police said that as they went over to where she came from, they noticed a man in a nearby vehicle also act abnormally.
“When the officer spoke to the man, he provided a false name and stated he was from the Stockton area. The officer noticed a package inside the vehicle that did not appear to belong to him as it looked like it was postmarked and had a Folsom delivery address,” Folsom PD said on Facebook.
Police said the officer suspected the package was stolen and detained the 42-year-old man. Nordstrom Rack employees then notified officers that the 28-year-old woman was seen stealing clothes from the store, which led to her detainment.
“Due to [the woman’s] parole status, a thorough vehicle search was conducted and a large garbage bag was found in the vehicle’s trunk,” Folsom PD said. “The bag contained more than 500 pieces of mail from the Folsom and El Dorado Hills area. Folsom PD has referred the mail theft to the US Postal Inspectors who will complete the investigation.”

The agency added that the best defense against mail theft is to try and pick up your mail daily. If you plan to leave town for an extended period, consider stopping your mail delivery with the United States Postal Service or asking a trusted person to collect it for you.
