Over 300 students to be honored at 45th African American Graduation Awards program at Bakersfield High School

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Over 30 students senior high school students will be honored at the “45th African American Graduation Awards Program” at Bakersfield High School April 16.

Ruscel Reader, from the Kappa Omega Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the Program Chair for the ceremony along with Katie Johnson, a Grad Award Recipient, and ASB President Highland High School joined 17 News at Noon to speak about the awards program.

Summer camp and school fair set for Thursday

This year’s theme is “Soaring Towards Excellence.” The event will also honor 300 8th grade honor roll students from Kern County.

The awards program will also feature singers from Emerson Jr. High School, student speakers and a negro national hymn. The program is happening Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Harvey Auditorium at Bakersfield High School.
