Englewood spa loses over $200K to break-in after grand opening

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) — An Englewood spa owner hopes the community can help catch the person who broke in and stole hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment right after the spa opened.

At Merlan Salon Boutique & Spa, those walking in or past the building are greeted by a sign saying “what a beautiful life we’ve built.”

Owner Sarah Simon bought, revamped and transformed the building on South Broadway into her dream salon, boutique and spa filled with stylish and sentimental touches.

“It’s been kind of like my refuge during hard times,” Simon said. “I lost my mom last year and I went through divorce, and that’s how it started. It’s just been a wild journey from zero to where we are right now.”

Simon and her team had their grand opening celebration on Saturday. On Monday, they walked into a shattering discovery with items knocked down and a glass window broken.

“That’s when I went back where the most expensive machine that we have is, and it was gone,” Simon said.

Over $200K in Englewood spa equipment stolen

Simon discovered a number of high-tech hair dryers and tools were stolen along with their Emsculpt machine.

“With everything, we’re looking probably about $200,000 to $250,000 worth of things being stolen,” Simon said. “We had to cancel all of our clients that are getting an Emsculpt. We had packages sold, all sorts of things. It’s just — it’s a violation.”

Simon feels especially violated by the timing of this theft: right after the opening celebration where they showed people their services, including the machine now taken from them.

“I don’t know if it’s somebody that we know, somebody who has been in here, and that’s more of a violation to me,” Simon said. “That’s the most disheartening part.”
