About 200 children have been evacuated from the frontline districts of Sumy Oblast over three days of planned evacuation, regional governor Volodymyr Artyukh announced on national television on May 17.

"Over the three days of the planned voluntary evacuation, more than 1,000 people have been evacuated from the settlements of Bilopillya and Vorozhba, including 200 children," he said.

People were provided with compact accommodation and humanitarian aid. The evacuation is being carried out within the Oblast.

Those who wish to leave for other oblasts are also given the opportunity, the governor added.

The authorities called on residents of Sumy Oblast on May 14 to evacuate a 10-kilometer zone near the border amid the threat of a Russian offensive.

Ukraine’s spy chief Kyrylo Budanov said earlier that Russian attacks in Kharkiv Oblast would continue "for another three to four days," after which Russian troops are expected to "make a hard push in the direction of Sumy."
