Over 200 cats, dozens of them dead, being removed from Yuba County home

(FOX40.COM) — Over 200 cats, dozens of them dead, are being removed from a Yuba County home, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Yuba County Animal Care Services team and deputies responded to several complaints about a residence in Plumas Lake, about 40 miles north of Sacramento, and found 160 living and 46 deceased cats at the home.

The sheriff’s office said the owner claimed to own a feral cat rescue and that it was unclear if the woman captured the cats herself or they were dropped off “by people or groups in the community who were familiar with her services.”

According to the sheriff’s office, as of Thursday afternoon, officials are still working on removing the animals.

“It will take days before the house is completely rid of the felines,” the sheriff’s office said.

Yuba County Animal Care Services is working with another rescue agency to handle the large number of cats.
