Over 139K lose power in Charlotte, surrounding counties

(QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Over 139,000 customers were without power on Wednesday as severe weather rolled through the Carolinas.

According to the Duke Energy outage map, over 6,400 customers were without power in Cleveland County, over 2,800 in Lincoln County, over 28,200 in Gaston County, more than 60,600 in Mecklenburg County, over 4,000 in York County, more than 2,300 in Cabarrus County and over 12,400 in Stanly County at the peak of the outage.

“With additional storms in the forecast, the pace of outage restoration may be hindered,” Duke Energy said in a statement. “We appreciate your patience.”

In addition, over 21,000 customers of other power services in Gaston County were without power. County officials declare an emergency following the outages and one death.

As of Wednesday night, over 89,800 customers were still without power in the Queen City News viewing area, with 34,500 of those being in Gaston County alone.
