Outer Banks Wawa, North Carolina’s first, to open in May

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) — There’s now an official opening date for Wawa’s Outer Banks location, its first in North Carolina.

The Kill Devil Hills store at 1900 Croatan Highway will open on May 16, the Pennsylvania-based chain announced Thursday. Doors will open at 8 a.m. and a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m.

That’s nearly a year to the day that Wawa held a groundbreaking ceremony for the store.

“We can’t wait to open our doors to our new North Carolina friends and neighbors and are excited for the chance to serve new customers and communities with our unique brand of fresh food, beverages and convenience,” said Kim Dowgielewicz Wawa’s director of store operations. “As each location opens, we will further solidify our commitment to providing the community with not only a new level of convenience but a strong, committed community partner.”

Wawa now says it plans to build at least 80 stores across North Carolina over the next 10-plus years, with the first 8 to 10 opening in 2024. Elizabeth City, Rocky Mount and Wilson stores currently under construction are expected to open in the third quarter of 2024.
