OU football adds quarterback Davis Beville in transfer portal from Pittsburgh

NORMAN — Pitt transfer Davis Beville committed to OU on Monday, bolstering the Sooners' quarterback depth.

With Dillon Gabriel being the only quarterback on OU's roster with significant college experience, Brent Venables focused in recent weeks on adding more experienced depth behind Gabriel.

Beville has played in nine games over the last two seasons.

Beville's most extensive experience came in the Peach Bowl against Michigan State, when he came on in the opening quarter to relieve injured starter Nick Patti. Playing the rest of the game, Beville was 14 of 18 for 149 yards and a touchdown with an interception.

Davis Beville's stats at Pittsburgh

Beville was 17 of 22 for 207 yards in three games during the season.

As a redshirt freshman in 2020, he was 5 of 10 for 30 yards in six games.

The Sooners needed added depth after losing Caleb Williams (USC) and Spencer Rattler (South Carolina) to transfer over the offseason, though they gained Gabriel from Central Florida.

Behind Gabriel, the quarterback on OU's roster with the most experience before the addition of Beville was Ralph Rucker, who threw two passes last season as a true freshman walk-on.

Beville is from Greenville, South Carolina. His father, Scott Beville, was a three-year starter at long snapper for Clemson from 1988-90.
