Ottawa organ donation crusader moving, communicating after lung transplant

TORONTO - An Ottawa woman whose organ donation campaign captured celebrity attention is moving and communicating again following transplant surgery.

A post from Helene Campbell's Twitter account says she performed some leg exercises from her hospital bed this afternoon, two days after receiving new lungs.

The message says that while awake, the 20-year-old is communicating by spelling out words on an alphabetic board.

Campbell was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis last September and launched a months-long campaign to raise awaress of organ donation.

Pop star Justin Bieber backed her efforts, as did American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

She was admitted to Toronto General Hospital this week and underwent a double lung transplant Friday.
