OSSAA moves Wrestling Regionals due to weather

Feb. 13—With ice hitting most of the area this past week, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) moved wrestling regionals to next week due to the inclement weather.

Duncan High School will now host the Class 5A West regionals Feb.18-19 instead of Feb. 12-13 unless weather postpones the new date.

Comanche and Marlow High School, who were slated to head to Plainview High School near Ardmore, had already drawn the brackets and decided what weights will go the two days.

They will continue that schedule as weight divisions 106, 113, 120, 132, 138, 160 and 170 will wrestle Feb. 18 now and weight divisions 126, 145, 152, 182, 195, 220, 285 will wrestle on Feb. 19.

Duncan's brackets haven't been drawn yet as when they host they usually do it in the first morning of action however they do have the weight divisions broken down and which day they will wrestle.

The Class 5A Regional hosted by Duncan will have weight divisions 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138 and 145 wrestling on Feb. 18 while weight divisions 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220 and 285 will wrestle on Feb. 19 with the format following what they had for their home tournament earlier in the season.

Regionals wrestling will begin at 11 a.m. each day and masks will be required for both regionals at Duncan and Plainview.

OSSAA has gotten the permission from the State Department of Health to allow 50% attendance rate with no tickets so each gym will follow that rule as it will determine State Tournament bids.

Vouchers have been handed out to the participating teams and those vouchers will be turned into the door to purchase a ticket at the door to ensure the 50% percent rate is observed.

Facilities will be cleaned throughout and between the sessions and the same rules will be in effect for the wrestling state tournament.

Currently, the state wrestling tournament is on as scheduled with the Duncan Wrestling team qualifiers wrestling on Friday, Feb. 26 and the Comanche and Marlow wrestling qualifiers wrestling on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the State Fairgrounds arena.

If any other changes are made due to weather, The Banner will provide updates.
