Oscars: Melissa McCarthy for host next year? Twitter says yes after her hilarious puppet skit

Twitter has decided: Melissa McCarthy for Oscars host 2020!

The actress won over the social media platform after a hilarious skit while presenting the award for best costume design during Sunday's awards show.

McCarthy took the stage with Brian Tyree Henry in an over-the-top ensemble, including an Elizabethan collar, a cape covered in stuffed animals and large hat she removed to reveal a balding wig.

"A rakish tilt to a hat. The drape of fabric, just so," Henry began earnestly, as McCarthy showed off a bunny puppet she was holding. "Nuance and sophistication are just two qualities of the most effective costume design."

Then McCarthy took over the script, continuing to make the audience laugh with her puppet, who seemed to have a mind of its own.

"These artists create a pastiche of textiles with authenticity, but never distract from the story," she said amid laughter.

Twitter was quick to recommend McCarthy to take over next year's show.

"PSA: Melissa McCarthy should host the #Oscars next year," one Twitter user said.
