Oscars 2018 Trend Report: Stars stun in white
The 2018 Academy Awards took place Sunday night in Los Angeles. As the biggest awards show of the year, there was no shortage of memorable fashion statements on this year's red carpet.
One trend we can't help but call out? White ensembles.
Some of the biggest stars in the film industry, such as Margot Robbie, Tiffany Haddish and Laura Dern opted for the color so pure it was almost blinding. Even Jordan Peele and Timothee Chalamet, along with other male attendees, chose ensembles of the same hue.
Jane Fonda, too, sported the color in her figure-hugging Balmain ensemble. The 80-year-old actress, who stunned in the tight long-sleeved gown, showed us how to complement the color with a nude lip and dramatic eyeliner. On Fonda's chest was a black pin, boldly spelling out "Times Up."
Were these other sartorial choices made in support of the movement?
The color dates back to the suffragette movement, and today is worn to show support of women's rights. To one of President Trump's first speeches to Congress, female lawmakers sported the color to symbolize unity against the president. Likewise, support for the Times Up movement has been shown with a simple white rose, like at this year's BAFTAs.
Though it's hard to say these artists made a conscious decision to wear white in solidarity with the movement, it's no doubt a trend to watch out for as more and more people come together to combat sexual assault and advocate for equal rights.
