Oscars 2017: Jimmy Kimmel sets personal record with Trump tweet

Jimmy Kimmel just set a personal record!

While hosting the 2017 Academy Awards on Sunday, Kimmel fired off a tweet at President Donald Trump, who was silent on Twitter during the award show. (The Oscars took place on the same night as the Trump-hosted Governors’ Ball.)

“Hey @realDonaldTrump u up?” tweeted Kimmel from the stage.

According to the @TwitterData account, this tweet became Kimmel’s most retweeted tweet ever in under 15 minutes. At the time of publishing, the tweet has been retweeted over 208,000 times. (For the record, it has a long way to go match the 3.2 million retweets Ellen DeGeneres’ 2014 Oscar selfie got.)

This was just one of several moments in the night when Kimmel trolled the former Celebrity Apprentice host. His opening monologue was filled with digs at Trump and Kimmel even called for a standing ovation for Streep, whom Trump called “over-rated” following her impassioned Golden Globes speech January.

Now, it’s time to wait and see if Trump responds.
