Oscar Valdez eyeing big names in featherweight division after title defense versus Quigg
Oscar Valdez signed with Top Rank after the 2012 Olympics, where he represented Mexico in London. Expectations were enormous as promoter Bob Arum raved about him.
A little more than five years later, it’s fair to say that Valdez has more than lived up to those expectations. He’s 23-0 with 19 knockouts as a pro and will make the fourth defense of his WBO featherweight title on Saturday against Scott Quigg at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., in a bout televised by ESPN.
In this interview with Yahoo Sports, Valdez discusses his bout with Quigg, his development path and thoughts on facing some of the bigger names in the featherweight division. We also got an update from him on his pet alligator, Steve.
