BCSO deputies and detectives said evidence left at the scene led them to suspect that Joseph Perkins, 54, of Oroville, shot the victim. Perkins fled the scene in a vehicle after the shooting, according to BCSO. The vehicle was found unoccupied in the Kelly Ridge area later in the evening and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Friday, officials said Perkins was located at a gas station in Stockton. He was arrested under suspicion of murder and for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Perkins was booked into the Butte County Jail.
