New Orleans police investigate after man fatally hit by vehicle

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officers with the New Orleans Police Department are investigating after a man was fatally hit by a car on Monday, April 15.

The NOPD reported that officers responded to a call of a crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of South Claiborne Avenue and Canal Street.

At the scene, officers said they found a man lying in the intersection. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

Arrest made in Royal Street Mardi Gras night triple shooting

NOPD investigators said a Mercedes was driving east on South Claiborne Avenue when a pedestrian unexpectedly walked in front of the car at the intersection at Canal Street.

According to the NOPD, “the driver had the right of way and stayed at the scene after the accident.”

The Orleans Parish coroner will identify the victim.
