Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office releases results of Jazz Fest safety operation

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office has released the results of its second annual Operation Jazz Fest Hub following the end of the 2024 festival.

OPSO officials said Operation Jazz Fest Hub was designed to offer resources for victims and survivors of violent crime during the festival weekends.

They said the OPSO worked with the New Orleans Police Department, the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security, the New Orleans Family Justice Center, Silence is Violence Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response and other partners to help provide support and services for people impacted by violent crime during the Jazz Fest weekend.

OPSO officials said they responded to 25 cases during the operation, including homicide, simple battery, armed robbery, disturbance domestic, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary and more.

According to the OPSO, some responses included “contacting victims or next of kin, referring victims to services or initiating follow-up with detectives assigned to a case for further assistance.”

The operation was located at the New Orleans Family Justice Center at 701 Loyola Ave.
