New Orleans’ Chef Pass Bridge closes for repairs

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced on Wednesday, April 3, that the Chef Pass Bridge will be closed until further notice.

The DOTD reported the bridge was closed after damage was found during a routine inspection.

“The damages warrant the closing of the structure to vehicular traffic to maintain the safety of the traveling public,” said DOTD officials.

The closure impacts the westbound and eastbound U.S. 90, also known as Chef Menteur Highway, Chef Pass Bridge.

DOTD officials said the bridge was closed to traffic starting at 3 p.m., and drivers can take Interstate 10 as a detour.

At this time, there is no estimated completion date, and DOTD officials said crews are set to start working on repairs soon.
