Organizers gather in Appleton to assemble ‘Courage Kits’ for cancer patients

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Organizers joined together in Appleton on Wednesday to make ‘Courage Kits’ to distribute to cancer patients throughout the area.

Courage Kits are made with items tailored to fit the needs of people going through Chemotherapy. Each kit is intended to educate and provide a solution to alleviate symptoms and assist in the recovery process during Chemo treatments for newly diagnosed cancer patients.

VPI, Inc., Nicolet National Bank, and the Spierings Cancer Foundation joined forces to assemble the Courage Kits at the United Way Fox Cities Hub.

The Courage Kits not only represent a giant gesture of support but also a reminder of the power of community and compassion in times of adversity.

“It all started when I started my journey,” began Denise Maves-Lessel Young, VPI Controller. “I was fully prepared with a kit that was given to me and I saw an individual come off a city bus with a can of Mountain Dew and I thought ‘My heart just broke for him and that we have to get more of these out to people.'”

A total of 100 Courage Kits were packed and will be distributed to local cancer centers in the Fox Cities.
