Oreo launches new Space Dunk cookies — with a literally out-of-this-world contest

Oreo’s newest cookie is out of this world — and the brand wants you to be, too.

America’s favorite cookie is starting off the new year with the launch of a galaxy-inspired limited-edition cookie.

To celebrate, the Oreo brand partnered with Space Perspective, purported to be the world’s “first and only” carbon-neutral “spaceflight experience” company, for a contest to send one lucky cookie lover to the edge of space.

The winner of the competition will “embark on a transformative six-hour journey to the edge of space in Space Perspective’s Spaceship Neptune — a pressurized capsule propelled gently by a SpaceBalloon,” according to the press release.

The capsule will reportedly reach 100,000 feet above 99% of the Earth’s atmosphere.

The lucky fan who nabs the flight will be able to “safely enjoy unprecedented views of planet Earth” from the “largest windows ever flown to space.”

Reportedly, no special training is required, and there’s no weightlessness or heavy g-forces involved.

“Oreo cookies are all about transporting fans to a place full of excitement and childlike curiosity,” Michelle Deignan, vice president of Oreo U.S., said in a statement. “We’re over the moon about partnering with Space Perspective to give one lucky fan the opportunity to dunk an Oreo cookie while gliding through space. Through this campaign we hope to take playfulness to new heights, proving it is not only in all of us, but also exists in space.”

The Oreo Space Dunk Cookies are stuffed with blue and pink “cosmic creme” with a marshmallowy flavor and popping candies that “create a supernova bursting sensation with each bite,” according to a press release.

Each treat also features one of five galactic embossments — and for the first time in Oreo cookie history, there will be a small cutout in the cookie, allowing cookie lovers to see the colorful creme through the cookie itself.

The galactic Oreos are available to order starting Tuesday, Jan. 23, on LiftOff.Oreo.com — and the mission to space starts on the cookie packaging, here on Earth.

Aspiring space cadets can scan the QR code on a pack of Oreo Space Dunk cookies for entry details or visit the website to enter the Lift Off With Oreo sweepstakes.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the iconic Oreo brand to be the first to bring a cookie fan aboard a Space Perspective flight,” Jane Poynter, founder and co-CEO of Space Perspective, said. “Together, we have put innovation, accessibility, playfulness and the spirit of exploration at the heart of this partnership – not to mention taking Oreo cookies where they’ve never gone before!”

The winner will also get a world-class meal and cocktail service, complimentary Oreo cookies, Wi-Fi and a Space Spa with a bathroom — part of the world’s first “space lounge.”
