PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Julie Fahey, the newly elected Oregon House Speaker, plans to deal with how to fund the Oregon Department of Transportation when the next session begins in 2025.

Fahey, who represents Eugene and Lane County, took over as House Speaker when Dan Rayfield voluntary stepped down to run for Oregon attorney general.

In a Sunday conversation with KOIN 6 News, Fahey said figuring out how to fund ODOT to operate roads, bridges and highways with less gas tax money.

She is credited with helping get lawmakers to approve a bill in this just-completed session that puts a cap on campaign contributions. Oregon is one of the few states without that cap.

There was a threat of a ballot measure if lawmakers didn’t act, the same ballot measure threat with a rollback of Measure 110 if lawmakers didn’t recriminalize possession of drugs like meth and fentanyl.

The 35-day session, which wrapped up Thursday evening, concluded with a statement from Gov. Tina Kotek announcing her intention to sign into law several key bills related to changing Measure 110, housing and homelessness and campaign finance contribution limits.
