Oregon football cornerback Daylen Austin, 19, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon at the Lane County Jail on charges of failing to perform the duties of a driver in connection with a Monday fatal hit-and-run in Eugene.

According to Eugene Police spokesperson Melinda McLaughlin, the incident happened around 9:10 p.m. on Monday at West 4th Avenue and Polk Street.

Police said the person killed was a 46-year-old man but have not yet released his name.

Austin was arraigned at the jail on Wednesday and was charged with failure to perform duties of a driver to seriously injured persons.

Eugene Police said Austin was arrested at 11:45 p.m. Monday at his apartment. He appeared to have been released and was no longer showing on the jail roster as of Wednesday afternoon.

He is being represented by Eugene criminal defense attorney Bryan Boender.

The redshirt freshman was not seen at Oregon's spring practice Tuesday morning but had been present previously throughout camp.

The prized 2023 recruit from Long Beach, California, played in three games last fall with three tackles and a pass breakup.

"We are aware of the incident and are awaiting additional information," an Oregon athletics spokesperson told The Register-Guard in an email Wednesday morning.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning on Saturday declined to say at a media availability whether Austin was still on the team and said he did not have any updates. "I know Daylen's character and I think there's a lot of details that will continue to play out," Lanning said. "Beyond that, I'm not going to speak on any more than that."

Austin is scheduled to appear in court next for a hearing at 2:30 p.m. on May 22.
