Orange Beach Fire Department to offer community CPR, AED class

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — American Heart Month just ended, but the Orange Beach Fire Department says saving lives has not. Officials with the fire department announced upcoming dates for a CPR class this week.

According to a Facebook post, the Orange Beach Fire Department is hosting a community CPR and AED certification class this week on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Officials with the department said this class can help people to prepare for a medical emergency by covering CPR, an emergency lifesaving procedure for when the heart stops beating, as well as AED training, a device that gives an electrical shock to the heart to help return the heart’s rhythm back to normal. Immediate CPR can double or triple the chances of survival after cardiac arrest, according to the American Heart Association.

The class will use mannequins to teach students the proper techniques for CPR. Attendees of the class will be able to practice performing compressions and get guidance on their technique.
