Oprah Scores Final Interview With Michelle Obama as First Lady to Air on CBS, OWN

CBS and OWN (the Oprah Winfrey Network) are teaming up to give America the final one-on-one interview with Michelle Obama in the White House. Oprah Winfrey will conduct the interview with FLOTUS, which will be broadcast on CBS on Dec. 19 at 8/7c and have a second airing on OWN on Dec. 21 at 9/8c.

In “First Lady Michelle Obama Says Farewell to the White House — An Oprah Winfrey Special,” Winfrey will speak to the First Lady in the First Family’s private residence about life at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and her eight years as First Lady of the United States, the legacy she’ll leave behind, and her plans for the future.

Speculation about what Michelle Obama will do after President Obama leaves office has been nearly as consuming as questions about what her husband will do. A memoir of some kind is a near-certainty, and a host of pundits have concluded she’d probably do well in politics on her own. Her speech at the Democratic National Convention in July was considered by many a high point — a Gallup poll gave her a 64% approval rating shortly after the speech, in which she talked about America’s essential optimism, and about being a black woman living in a house built by slaves. FLOTUS ranked 13th on this year’s The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list in Forbes — seven slots above Winfrey.

“First Lady Michelle Obama Says Farewell to the White House — An Oprah Winfrey Special” is produced by OWN Studios, with Tara Montgomery and Oprah Winfrey as executive producers. The interview will be taped later this month.
