Operation Starfish goes bilingual

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Books and Badges is going bilingual.

The program started as a partnership between Columbus Division of Police and The Starfish Assignment organization in 2019, and now they’re launching Books and Badges en Espanol.

Columbus police read books in Spanish to 170 children at St. Mary Magdalene School in the Hilltop section of the city Wednesday. Many of those students speak English as a second language.

Starfish Assignment, a group that acts as a liaison between the police and the community, also celebrated another milestone – it donated its 50,000 book.

The Books and Badges program spans six state and Starfish provides each child with a copy of the book being read.
