‘Operation House Watch:’ Moore PD keeps eyes on your home if you travel

MOORE, Okla. (KFOR) — City of Moore residents traveling out of town can have extra peace of mind about leaving their house behind.

The Moore Police Department has launched a new security program called ‘Operation House Watch.’

Whether you are planning a trip, quick summer getaway or an extended stay, the Moore Police Department is trying to keep safe what is left behind.

“It’s all about having that extra peace of mind,” said Clint Byley with the Moore Police Department.

Residents can now have that extra comfort with the new volunteer based program.

“The Moore Police Department will come monitor your residence, ensure that everything is on the up and up, how you expect it to be,” said Byley. “Volunteers will work with the request to come to their place of residence or their business that they own.”

The new program is set to serve all Moore residents while they’re away.

“That may entail just checking doors and make sure no windows are broken, checking to make sure that nothing has been damaged,” said Byley.

Volunteers will be in clearly marked vehicles with credentials and will also go through proper training preparing them for any situation.

“They are trained to see certain aspects of things and then they work closely with our officers on a day to day basis already,” said Byley.

The program is offered at your request free of charge. Something resident Cherye Wilmore said is needed.

“We’ve heard about all the break-ins and the break-ins into vehicles, and we will feel a little bit safer because of this program,” said Wilmore.

Wilmore said the program makes her feel safe in a place she’s called home for decades.

“You feel like you can go on a trip or leave town for a weekend and you know that your house will be secure while you’re gone,” said Wilmore.
