Opelousas resident arrested for possession of large amounts of narcotics

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of an Opelousas man after seizing a large amount of narcotics in his possession.

Officials said narcotics detectives with SLPSO received information on Monday that Jeremy Cains, 37, of Opelousas was wanted for domestic battery by strangulation and serious bodily injury and was also selling narcotics out of a residence of 280 Gulino Street in Opelousas.

Upon entering the residence, detectives said they observed a small amount of marijuana and a scale in plain view in the living room. Cains was located inside the home and hiding in a bedroom closet. Authorities said Cain was cooperative, provided detectives verbal permission to search and led them into his bedroom.

During a search of Cain’s bedroom, detectives said they located approximately four pounds of marijuana, 17 multi-colored tablet of MDMA (ecstasy), $666 in cash, approximately 28 ounces of promethazine and 3 ounces of THC syrup.

Caine was taken to the St. Landry Parish Jail and booked on the following charges:

  • Possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (marijuana)

  • Possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (MDMA)

  • Possession with intent to distribute schedule V CDS (promethazine)

  • Transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
