American skier Mikaela Shiffrin has confirmed that she will not compete in every race at the World Cup Finals over the next two weekends in Austria which rules her out of contention for the overall title for good.

Shiffrin said she will only compete in Saturday's slalom in Saalbach-Hinterglemm while not participating in the giant slalom the next day, and the super-g and downhill races next week.

Shiffrin injured herself in a January 26 crash and only returned to action last weekend for the slalom in Are, Sweden, which she won to clinch an eighth title in the discipline.

"Of course I had hoped to push out of the GS start again this season, but we’ve run out of time to progress enough to be ready to race by Sunday," Shiffrin said late Thursday on Instagram.

"I’m so excited to race one more slalom this season on Saturday and then get right into 2024-25 season prep. Here we go!"

Trailing Swiss leader Lara Gut-Behrami by 345 points, Shiffrin had a mathematical chance to claim a sixth overall title.

Now the fight will be between Gut-Behrami and Italy's Federica Brignone, who is 282 points behind. The two are also to fight for the giant slalom title, and Gut-Behrami leads the super-g and downhill standings as well.
