Only half of displaced Ukrainians ready to return from Europe – KIIS poll
50% of displaced Ukrainians living in Germany, Poland, and Czechia said they would not return to Ukraine, according to a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) released on May 14.
Exactly half of the respondents declared their readiness to return to Ukraine someday if there are appropriate conditions for this. Among such conditions, they named the normal operation of critical infrastructure (34%), security (34%), housing (26%), and the end of the full-scale invasion of Russia (26%).

"Taking into account the respondents' answers to the question about their interest in Ukraine, this assessment is rather an optimistic scenario in the current situation," KIIS notes.
"The survey results show that a significant number of Ukrainian refugees are losing or have already lost contact with Ukraine," said Anton Hrushetskyi, executive director of KIIS.
“Unfortunately, this was absolutely expected and in any case we would have lost some citizens. However, the question remains, which part of the citizens can be returned and what steps make sense to take to ensure this.”
The survey was conducted from April 20 to 26, 2024, by online interviews with 801 respondents (adult citizens aged 18 and older) who left Ukraine after Feb. 24, 2022 and currently live in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.
