‘Only a drill:’ Loud noises near Akron General Hospital

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Cleveland Clinic Akron General is warning the public they may hear loud noises and see what appears to be an emergency situation on hospital property but it’s “only a drill.”

According to a press release, law enforcement will conduct an active shooter drill on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. until approximately 3:30 p.m.

The drill will take place on the first floor of the main hospital building, in the area that was formerly the hospital’s Emergency Department.

“Loud noises may be heard during this time and uniformed law enforcement personnel along with actors portraying patients and visitors may be seen walking in and out of the building. Some may appear to be carrying weapons or be wounded,” warns the release.

The hospital system said there will be no disruptions to patient care during the drill.
