One of two Rio Linda homes hit by gunfire was targeted in gang shooting, Sacramento deputies say

Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives continued their investigation of a burst of gunfire Wednesday that left two Rio Linda homes riddled with bullets in what is now believed to be a gang-related shooting.

The shooting was reported about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 7100 block of Paladin Way, just west of Rio Linda Boulevard. Sheriff’s officials said deputies arrived at the shooting scene and discovered two homes struck by gunfire. No injuries were reported.

Investigators found 30 bullet shell casings and “other items of evidentiary value” at the shooting scene, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday night in a news release.

Detectives believe one of the homes was directly targeted in the shooting, since that home was struck by a significant amount more of bullets than the other home, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses and also discovered security camera video that captured the shooting. The sheriff’s Gang Suppression Unit has since taken over this investigation, since they believe the shooting was gang-related.
