One person rescued was in critical condition after boat capsized off West Yarmouth

An investigation is underway, according to a spokeswoman for the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office, after a boat capsized Saturday night off Hyannis and West Yarmouth.

The Hyannis Fire Department and Barnstable Police Department responded around 10:35 p.m. to a boat taking on water in the area of Point Gammon, according to the fire department. Sea Tow was also dispatched to the scene.

Point Gammon is in West Yarmouth, east of Hyannis Port.

During the recovery, the boat capsized, sending four people into the water.

The Sea Tow operator recovered all four people, released the tow line, and headed toward Hyannis Harbor. The U.S. Coast Guard and Barnstable Harbor officials also responded.

All four people on the boat were transported to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, one in critical condition and three in serious condition, according to the fire department.

Mutual ambulances were requested from Barnstable and Yarmouth Fire Department.

"The Hyannis Fire Department would like to remind boaters that it’s extremely important to have a life vest on at all times while in the water," reads a statement from the Hyannis Fire Department.
