ALEA: One dead, another injured after wreck in front of Lacey’s Spring shopping center

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – One person is dead and another injured after a wreck in front of a Lacey’s Spring shopping center according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

ALEA said 90-year-old Robert R. Barnes, of Huntsville, was critically injured when the 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis he was driving struck a 2008 Porsche Cayenne. Barnes was taken to Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The agency said the wreck happened around 11:56 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 231 near Old Silo Road.

The two-vehicle accident in front of the Food For Less shopping center initially caused lane closures in the Lacey’s Spring/Morgan City area, according to a Facebook post from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

ALEA said the driver of the Porsche was also injured and was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

Authorities said no more information is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
