Juvenile charged with Naperville aggravated robbery in which a 22-year-old man was shot

A juvenile has been charged with aggravated robbery in connection with a shooting Tuesday that left a 22-year-old Naperville man hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

A second suspect remains at large in connection with the incident, which took place about 1:30 p.m. at a residence in the 2500 block of Leach Drive, near Plainfield-Naperville Road and 87th Street, according to Naperville police.

Investigators have determined the two suspects, both known to the victim, struggled with the man at his house and ultimately shot him in the leg, police said in a news release Wednesday.

The pair fled on foot, prompting six nearby schools to be placed on lockdown and about 300 area residents told to shelter in place for several hours, according to police Cmdr. Rick Krakow.

After searching the vicinity, officers located the juvenile, who is being held at the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center in Joliet. The suspect appeared at a detention hearing Wednesday and was charged with one count of aggravated robbery. Their next court date is scheduled for May 1.

No information has been released on the robbery or why the victim was shot. Police did not say if they knew the identity of the second suspect.

Callie Stone, who lives across the street from where the shooting took place, said she was home when she “heard a gunshot and then screaming,” causing her to look out a window and see a young man “hopping around (and) screaming.”

Stone said it looked like he had “blood all over himself.” She watched as police arrived and the victim was taken away in an ambulance, she said.

Stone, 24, said that she has lived on Leach Drive her whole life and that while she was familiar with people across the street, she did not know them.

Anyone with information on the situation is asked to contact the police department’s investigations unit at 630-420-6665.
