One person dead, two others hospitalized after shooting near SacRT light rail station, police say

(FOX40.COM) — One man has died and another two people were hospitalized after a shooting near the University/65th St. light rail station on Thursday afternoon, according to Sacramento Police.

The agency said that officers responded around 3:15 p.m. to the area of Q St. and 65th St., which is close to the transit station used by Sacramento Regional Transit’s Gold Line and several bus routes.

Police said one man was found with a gunshot wound and was declared dead at the site, and two other gunshot victims, a man and a woman, were taken to a hospital. Police added that the woman’s condition is stable, but the man’s condition is currently unknown.

An officer said two suspects fled and may be armed. The suspects were described as two Black men, one wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with blue jeans and the other wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with black jeans.

The officer also said to that there was a carjacking nearby and that police are trying to determine if it is connected to the shooting.

Sacramento State Police said they were helping Sacramento Police “in searching for carjacking suspects along the levee.” Campus police also said that there was no immediate threat to the campus.

According to SacRT, the University/65th St. station is closed and buses that service the station have been moved to Power Inn Station.

SacRT said a bus bridge will take passengers on the Gold Line between the 29th St. and Sunrise stations, and another bus bridge will pick up bus passengers on S St. off of 65th St., next to the SMUD offices.
