One person dead after Wednesday night crash north of Champaign

HENSLEY TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WCIA) — One person was killed in a motor vehicle accident Wednesday night just outside of Champaign.

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 11:02 p.m. in Hensley Township. One vehicle was headed north on County Road 900 E near 2400 N when it crossed into the southbound lanes and was struck by the second vehicle.

The driver in the first vehicle died from the accident and a passenger of the second vehicle was airlifted to Carle with life threatening injuries, according to Sheriff Dustin Heuerman. The driver of the second vehicle, who is from Champaign, was taken in an ambulance to Carle with non-life threatening injuries.

The names of everyone involved in the crash have not yet been released. The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the accident.
