Pomona woman dies, 17-year-old arrested after high-speed crash near McFarland

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A 17-year-old is in custody and a Pomona woman was killed after being involved in a high-speed rollover crash near McFarland Saturday.

On May 11, the California Highway Patrol responded to a fatal collision near Sherwood Avenue and northbound Highway 99 just after 8:20 p.m. Officers say, the 17-year-old driver of a Infinity sedan traveling northbound on Highway 99 allowed the car to veer to the right shoulder and left the roadway.

Despite spartan, bare-bone facilities, CSUB baseball team soldiers on — but for how long?

The Infinity collided with a raised dirt rock embankment and overturned several times. The car came to a rest on its roof. The 17-year-old driver sustained major injuries during the rollover crash. He was transported to Kern Medical for treatment.

Passenger Lizae Jiselle Franco, 21, was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Adventist Health Delano where she was pronounced dead, according to the coroner’s office.
