One-on-One: LPD Chief shares update on Kingston Campbell & Terrion Marshall case

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — WFXR News sat down with Lynchburg Police Department’s Chief Ryan Zuidema following the recent announcement that two homicide cases in Hill City may be connected.

On April 25, LPD told WFXR that investigators believe that Kingston Campbell and Terrion Marshall’s homicide cases are related.

“Based on the investigation over the last year into both of those incidents we believe there is a connection there,” explained Chief Zuidema. “We just want folks to understand that those two crimes are linked and we hope that would encourage folks to come forward with additional information.”

At this time, the distinct connection between the two cases has not been made clear.

In 2023, a series of shootings ripped across Lynchburg, specifically in the Diamond Hill community. The year ended with four homicide cases including the cases of 16-year-old Terrion Marshall and 6-year-old Kingston Campbell.

On March 23, Marshall was shot and killed while driving on Taylor Street. On May 1, a group was captured on surveillance camera footage shooting into a home, where 6-year-old Kingston Campbell was sitting on his bed playing video games.

Since both cases remain unsolved.

However, the Chief says detectives are continuing to follow up on leads and ensure every lead is fully vetted.

“We are going to continue to investigate these crimes, we are going to continue to put all the resources that we have available forward. We have been working with our local state and federal partners in both of these cases to ensure no stone is left unturned,” he emphasized.

Chief Zuidema says he certainly hears the concerns about violence in his city and shared this message with families and residents in the community.

“We are going to continue to fight for the families to make sure we bring justice for their lost.”

On May 1, “One Community, One Voice” will host a vigil for the first anniversary of Kingston Campbell’s death. The vigil will begin at 5 p.m. at the Diamond Hill Community Center.

The Lynchburg Police Department is asking the community to come forward and share any information about these two cases. All tips can remain anonymous and can be entered online.
