One man dead following snowmobile vs. SUV crash outside Hartford

Dec. 18—HARTFORD, S.D. — One man is dead following a two-vehicle accident on Saturday, Dec. 17.

Authorities were dispatched at approximately 6:38 p.m. for reports of an injury accident involving an SUV and a snowmobile around the area of SD Highway 38 and 462 Avenue, a few miles outside Hartford.

According to a press release from the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, life saving measures were performed by first responders for the driver of the snowmobile. An Avera Careflight Helicopter was also dispatched to the scene.

The driver of the snowmobile, a 42-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The occupants of the SUV were uninjured.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office will continue to investigate the crash. All information released thus far is only preliminary.
